LOWER PULLEY LANE,

Farmhouse, now house. Probably mid to late C16 with later additions and
alterations. Timber-framed with brick infill (now largely roughcast) and
painted brick additions, plain tile roofs. The earliest part is probably
the 2-bay block at the north-west corner, which subsequently had a recessed
2-bay cross-wing added to left and then a parallel range behind;
simultaneously or a little later a single-bay addition was made to the left of the
cross-wing; this was then encased in brick, the eaves raised and a further
addition made to the left. Two storeys and gable-lit attics; dentilled eaves
cornice to brick additions; framing: now concealed except for projecting
purlin ends to front gable of cross-wing and the gable end of right-hand
part, which also has a jetty to the attic supported on carved corner brackets:
irregular fenestration, one window on each floor to each section, all late
C19/C20 casements; entrance immediately to left of cross-wing, 6-panel door
(top panels now glazed) under late C20 gabled timber porch; prominent brown
brick valley stack at left-hand end of right-hand section. INTERIOR: timber
frame (square panels) partially exposed throughout; chamfered cross beam
with straight-cut stops and heavy joists to ground floor of right-hand section;
the roof of the earliest part has cambered collar and tie beam trusses with
straight wind braces.
