7/110 Gateway to Burley
14.6.54 on the Hill
GV II
Gateway, probably early C17. Ashlar. A round-arched gateway with
pediment above capped by 3 obelisks. Timber gates of later date. The
gateway opens onto an avenue formerly leading to Burley House, but
probably belongs with the predecessor of the present house built by the
1st Duke of Buckingham, 1620-30.
