A handsome small mansion. Late C15 or early C16 in origin, the main centre
front being the earliest part of the building. Red brick end stone dressings.
Two storeys plus attic. Two wings placed at right angles, the portion
to the right of the front door being of C16 date. The back or east wing
is C17. The main block has 4 later windows; central porch wing with pediment
and ball-headed finials; side gables, curved and stepped with ball-headed
finials at centre and sides; one gabled dormer with some treatment. The
rear wing his some characteristics but was altered late C17. Six arched
three-light casement windows; heraldic panel; 4 dormers with gabled
treatment as above. Old tiles; moulded stone eaves; panelled brick and
later stuccoed stacks. Excellent C17 staircase. Exposed timber framing
in earlier part. Good C17 panelling and brass door furniture. The windows
contain some interesting heraldic glass. The seat since about 1590 of
the Fowkes family and their lineal descendants, now of Mrs E A Wallace.
