Terraced houses. 1847-53. Developed by George Frasi and James
Beaumont. Brick, stucco and roofs of slate. Three storeys over
half-basement. The row forms a symmetrical group, the end and
central sections having second floor windows in a full attic
storey, the rest with round-arched dormers in a mansard roof.
The end sections (nos 24-5 and 38) are four bays wide with
side entrances, the central section (nos 31-2) is six bays
wide; the rest form two groups of four two-bay houses.
Half-basements and ground floors stuccoed, the ground floors
with banded rustication; Greek Doric porches, panelled doors
and fanlights; the first-floor windows are flat-arched
throughout, the end and central sections have architraves and
cornices on consoles, and cast iron balconies as on nos 31-59
Compton Road (q.v.), while the rest have architraves only and
window-guards of scrolling ironwork; cornice to the whole
terrace with bracketed stops between the mansard-roofed
houses; attic storeys have round-arched windows. Margin lights
generally to sashes on the first and second floors. Nos 30, 32
and 33 have cast-iron window-guards to ground-floor windows.
No 38 has a two-storey recessed entrance bay with panelled
door and fanlight between pilasters. Cast-iron railings to
steps and area.
