GV II

Drill hall. Probably 1838-9. Painted rubble walls; asbestos
slate roof built to follow slope; granite ashlar pedimented
gable over front gable with Venetian window with glazing bars.
Deep plan. Single storey. Right-hand (courtyard) elevation has
5 round-arched doorways with spoked concentric fanlights
alternating with 4 Venetian windows similar to gable windows.
Left-hand elevation has similar features; Rear has boarded
Venetian window. INTERIOR: original King-post roof structure
where inspected. Originally part of the market complex and one
of a fine group of buildings including the guildhall and
market hall (now the Museum (qv)).
