Bandstand. 1882; outer part of later C19. By McDowell Stevens
& Co of Glasgow. Cast-iron on brick base; cast-iron roof
replaced with fibreglass (1976). Octagonal structure on brick
base; inner columns have barleysugar twist on round plinths
and Corinthian capitals; openwork spandrels to round arches;
similar outer columns are fluted, with smaller capitals;
enriched balustrade has 3 sections missing at time of resurvey
(1990); ogival roof with weather vane. Park was laid out by
V.H. Vertegans, 1879-81, on the site of Broad Meadows
racecourse.
