Italian Lodge, and 5 gatepiers)

Lodge to Birkenhead Park. c1843-47. Lewis Hornblower amd John
Robertson for Sir Joseph Paxton. Ashlar faced with Welsh slate
roof. Italianate style. Two-storeyed, the plan comprises tower
linked to a rear block by a single bay. Round arched entrance
door in side of tower, and large projecting bay to front with
high parapet. One 12-pane sash window with entablature over in
each face above, and open arcaded upper stage and projecting
eaves cornice. Squared bay in rear range and paired round
headed sash windows above. Smaller service block to rear. The
lodge forms part of the original development of Birkenhead
Park but is now derelict.
