House, formerly domestic wing of No.8, Thorngate House (qv),
now flats. Mid-late C18 with alterations including those
recorded on plaque of No.8 as being for Sir John Hullock;
reused C19 porch and C20 vehicle entrance. Rubble with ashlar
dressings; roof not visible; stone chimneys. 4 storeys;
3-window range. Left bay widest. Inserted shallow porch of 4
tall Ionic columns at left shelters renewed door in plain
stone surround, narrow window in similar surround, and 6-panel
door with high overlight. At right an elliptical vehicle arch
with voussoirs rests on ashlar jambs with impost bands, and
has C20 glazed doors. A C20 central boarded vehicle door is
inserted under a steel lintel. Early C19 sashes with glazing
bars on upper floors, those in the first two bays closer
together, are in plain stone surrounds. At right, quoins above
eaves of adjacent building. Roof has right gable coping on
moulded kneeler, and right end chimney. INTERIOR: not
inspected.
