House, now hotel. Early Cl7, rebuilt with datestone on porch, 1664. Roughcast
rubble, plain clay tile roofs with raised, coped verges surmounted by finials,
diagonal stacks. L-plan. Entrance from (west) elevation: 3½ storeys,
4 windows which are 1, 2, 3 or 4-light casements with stone ovolo-moulded
mullions and king mullions, all under labels, central 2-storey gabled porch has
ovolo-moulded inner and outer door frames with depressed four-centered arched
heads, studded plank door, pairs of windows flank this porch, all under one
gable, outer gables have one window. South elevation also 3½ storeys,
3 windows under 3 gables, all as front. Similar rear elevations show 2 gables
to north, 2 to east, partially obscured by single-storey, flat roof, C20
extension, gabled stair turret in re-entrant angle. Interior: deep chamfered
framed ceiling in ground floor right room, ovolo-moulded stopped beams elsewhere;
hall and some first floor rooms have moulded stone fireplaces with lintels as
porch, above 2 are decorative, plaster overmantel plaques which in rooms to
left are repeated on side walls; also at first floor a good set of moulded door
frames with lintels as porch.
