Anglican Parish Church. C11, C15 alterations, extended and restored, 1851.
Rubble, freestone dressings, slate roof with weathered, coped verges, cross
finials and stone ridge. Nave, south porch, north aisle, chancel, north vestry.
Much restored, now mainly Perpendicular. Nave, with diagonal buttresses as
elsewhere, has a heavily restored 2-light west window below a corbelled,
octagonal bell-turret with alternate cusped openings between jamb-shafts,
conical cap, two 3-light square head windows under labels flank the gabled
south porch which has a moulded barely pointed arch under a drip mould, a tiny
cusped west light and a plain 2-light east window, within the doorway has jamb
shafts with scalloped capitals, plain tympanum below double chevron topped by
pellet moulds, to right of this a pointed piscina below a frieze, plain oak
benches. North aisle has 3 windows as nave, grotesque gargoyle at junction
with nave. Chancel is lower than nave, to the south two 2-light windows flank
a priest's door all under labels, at east a 3-light window as nave west end,
adjoining flat roof north vestry has a 2-light east window and a north door as
south doorway. Interior: chancel arch has same features as south doorway on a
larger scale, chancel has 2 piscinas, one dates from restoration, the other is
earlier: 3-bay arcade, crude wave and shaft. Fittings: chamfered square font
may be of C13 origin; half-octagon, corbelled C15 stone pulpit has cusped
panels and a foliate frieze and is entered from vestry up altered rood stairs.
Memorials: freestone tablet on external wall of nave, drapes around a tablet,
