Bank barn, converted to domestic use. Probably C18 with C20 alterations.
Roughcast stone with slate roof. 3 entrances with pivoted doors to lower level,
2 small lights. Upper level has window with paired sashes with vertical glazing
bars and horns. Left return has window with dripcourse and paired sashes. Rear
to lane has lateral stack. Right return has entrance to upper level up stone
steps. Arthur Ransome, journalist and author, lived at Low Ludderburn, 1925-35,
and converted the upper level of barn to workroom, and here wrote 'Swallows and
Amazons'.
