SY 49 NW WHITCHURCH CANONICORUM MANDEVILLE STOKE LANE

Farmhouse. c 1500 with c 1600 and later alterations. Rubble-stone walls.
Asbestos slate and corrugated iron roof with gable ends. 2 brick stacks,
one at left hand gable, one at right hand former gable end. 1½ storeys.
4 windows, left ground a 5-lighter with hollow-chamfered stone mullions with
returned label over, C17. Two 2-light C20 mullions in late C17 style.
Dormers are 2-light wooden casements with glazing bars, C20. Front door,
plank C20, leading directly into staircase. Interior: plank-and-muntin
partition without chamfer, C16. Mid-chamfered ceiling beams with tongued
stops, c 1600. 4 jointed-cruck trusses survive, with collars, pegged. Smoke-
blackening to one truss. "RCHM Dorset I", p 264 (14).
