A fine timber-framed house with exposed framing and plaster infil. Mainly
of the C16 and C17 but probably incorporates the frame of an earlier C15,
2 bay hall house (cf Nos 13 to 17 (odd), Chequers Lane). A picturesque
house, which has been carefully restored, in a commanding situation.
2 storeys and attics. There are cross wings on the north and south ends,
with jettied gables. In the centre there is a C17 2 storey bay carried
up to a jettied gable on a moulded bressummer. The window lintel is carved
with the initials A K above C K and the date 1614. There are deny original
4 and 5-light leaded casements, some with original oak mullions and small
high level flanking lights. The north cross wing has a 2 storeyed bay
of 5 lights and the south cross wing has an upper storey oriel with modern
brackets. The roof is tiled, with 2 large chimney stacks each with 3
octagonal shafts. It has a good interior, with exposed timber-framing
ceiling beams and joists.
