4/191 Gate piers to Heywood House
GV II
Gate piers at west entrance to Heywood House (q.v.). 1840s,
probably by Harvey Eginton for H.G.G. Ludlow. Limestone ashlar
octagonal piers with moulded plinths and brattishing to moulded
cappings with carved stone crests of Ludlow family; raised fist
with arrow and lion rampant, the right pier crest is missing a
lion. Wooden pedestrian gates either side, attached to dwarf
walls with wooden fence; main gates missing.
