Farmhouse, c.1500 with alterations of late C16, C19 and mid C20. A 3-cell
open hall house. One storey and attics. Timber-framed and plastered.
Thatched roof with 3 mid C20 eyebrow casement dormers. A late C16 or C17
axial chimney of red brick with C20 rebuilt shaft; a C19 gable chimney to
left. Mid C20 casements and half-glazed panelled entrance door within a
gabled porch on posts. A two-bay central open hall; the open truss has a
heavy cranked tiebeam (arch braces removed) and a cross-quadrate crownpost
with 4-way solid plank braces. Moderate smoke blackening. Widely spaced
studwork. The lower bay of the hall is unusually short; it contains one rear
cross entry doorway (damaged) with a 4-centred head. Evidence for a doorway
into the parlour. In c.1570 a chimney with lintelled fireplace was placed in
the cross-entry, and a 1st floor with good chamfered joists inserted in the
hall, a 4- centred arched doorway by the hall fireplace is of this phase. A
blocked late C17 window in the former end wall to left, and evidence for an
original diamond mullioned window to right (both ends had half-hipped roofs).
Extensions to left and rear of C19 and C20.
