4/135 Post office and Orchard Cottage

Pair of cottages. Mid C17. Dressed limestone, timber-framed first
floor with brick nogging, tiled roof with stone or rendered stacks.
Through passage to rear of stack. Two-storey, 4-window. Post
Office has half-glazed door with flat wooden hood on brackets and
bow-fronted shop window to left, 3-light recessed chamfered
mullioned casement with hoodmould to right; Orchard Cottage has
planked door and 3-light mullioned casement with hoodmould. First
floor has three 3-light leaded casements and one single-light
leaded casement. Left return has single-light casement to first
floor. Rear has lean-to extensions, 2-light leaded casements to
first floor. Right return has C20 casements to ground and first
floors.
Interior-of Orchard Cottage not accessible at time of survey (March
1986), Post Office has deeply chamfered beams with bar and stepped
stops, planked doors, blocked open fireplace with stairs to one
side.
