Railings, wall, gate-piers and gates flanking road to front of Gilstead Methodist Chapel
II
Wall with gate-piers, gates and railings. c1904. Hammer-dressed
stone and ashlar, cast and wrought iron. Low wall is surmounted
by long run of railings with hammer head terminals to bars. On
3 levels following slope of road. Railings terminate in feature
with triple, depressed elliptical arch in the style of Rennie Mackintosh.
Square ashlar gate-piers have ball finials and matching gate, another
similar gate to railings at higher level. The nearby chapel is dated
1904 and is the probable date for the erection of the railings.
The best example in the parish of Art Nouveau ironwork.
