Auction rooms, formerly Methodist Chapel. Early C19. Flemish
bond brickwork, tile roof. A square room with hipped roof,
with gallery across street side, but all other fittings
removed.
2 storeys, 3-windowed. Arched 12-pane (4 panes wide) sashes
with radial bars, in painted reveals and to stone cills.
Ground-floor unit has wide box surround, and has the upper
sash only, serving as a fanlight to a pair of 6-panel doors
under a deep fascia band; a foot-scraper recess in stone each
side of door. At either end of facade are blank arched
recesses set very close to corners. Back wall has been broken
through for access to storage space, but has 3 arched sashes
at first floor, as front.
INTERIOR: balcony carried on 2 slender cast-iron columns,
approached by one timber spiral stair to raking floor, has a
front with scrolled cast-iron infill. Flat ceiling with simple
cornice, good central plaster rosette, and 2 ventilators. Dado
panelling.
Although all fittings have now been removed from the chapel,
it retains its essential fabric and detail.
