(South Side)
Nos 29 and 31
GV II
Two houses. c1820 and mid C19, with minor later alterations.
Built as part of the Moravian Settlement. Both houses of red
brick with painted stone dressings and both with slate roofs and
dentilled eaves bands. No 29 to north has brick gable stacks
and No 31 to south has a central brick ridge stack and a gable
stack to south. Both houses of three storeys and three bays.
No 29, the mid C19 house, has a central brick porch with
semi-circular headed stone doorcase and moulded cornice with
blocking course over, also panelled door and plain fanlight. To
either side there are plain sashes below wedge lintels and above
three similar windows. Three similar but smaller windows
without lintels below the eaves above. To far south on the
ground floor is the doorcase into No 31 which is covered by a
large C20 glass porch. The doorcase has a rusticated wedge
lintel with double keystone and below is a panelled door with
divided overlight. No 31 is a c1820 house and has three windows
to ground floor all under rusticated lintels with double
keystones, the two to south with plain sashes and that to north
with a glazing bar sash which is covered by the glazed porch.
Above three plain sashes below similar lintels and above again
three more smaller sashes with flat timber lintels, probably
later insertions. Below the window to the south end of the
building is a gauged brick segmental archway with stone keyblock
which runs through the building. Included for group value only.
