Here lyeth the body of Mr James Courtenay the Younger son of James Courtenay of Cheriton Esquire who departed this life the VI day of September A Dni 1593.

The identity of this James is uncertain. He was either the James Courtenay who married Christian Rolle or his son James who married Jane Prideaux. Upcott is a manor in the parish of Cheriton.
