Stables. Late C18. Red brick, Flemish bond, hipped peg-tiled
roof. U-plan. 2 storeys. Front, facing SW has 2:3:2 window
range, plain reveals, flat soffits with voussoirs, central
section of 3 windows articulated forward slightly, brick
dentilled eaves cornice. Ground floor has 3 doorways with
heads dropped in blind recesses that rise to same height as
ground-floor window heads. Door recess heads with voussoirs
and flat soffits. All windows fixed lights, 2 outer ones with
glazing bars, 4x3 panes. Doors C20 boarded and halved for
stable use. First-floor 5 windows, fixed lights, glazing bars,
4x3 panes, 2 casement windows with glazing bars, 4x3 panes.
Central octagonal wooden lantern with semicircular arched
openings and cupola. Square base beneath, with an octgonal
clock face on the front E elevation of similar style but
windows now irregular.
INTERIOR with enclosed living rooms on first floor and roof
were revealed of joggled butt purlin type. A sales catalogue
of 1830 lists this building as capable of accommodating 22
horses. The mansion was demolished after a fire in 1837.
