Terrace of four semi-detached linked villas. On slope of hill
leading up to Lloyd Square. 1825. By John Booth, and his son,
also John, Surveyors for the Lloyd Baker Estate; William
Joseph Booth, another son, architect. Gold stock bricks set in
Flemish bond with stucco dressings (no. 46 1st floor rendered
in stucco), and stucco pediment over each pair; artificial
slate gabled roofs; brick centre stacks. Restrained Greek
Revival style. Side-hall entrance plan to outer linked bay of
each house. Two-storeys with basement; 2 windows each
including recessed 1-window entrance bays coupled as links and
3-window range double-fronted right-hand return to no. 43 in
Granville Street. Low steps rise to deeply recessed stucco
entrance (nos. 44-45 altered) with antae supporting
entablature. Architraved doorway with C20 door; no. 43 to
return in Granville Street with recessed architraved doorway
flanked by stucco pilasters carrying entablature. Architraved
sashes in arched stuccoed recesses with stucco impost blocks
and stucco moulded archivolts: ground-floor with predominantly
8/8 and 1st floor mostly 4/8 sashes, some with segmental
heads. 1st floor recessed balconied links (nos. 44-45
enclosed) with narrower doors or sashes and no. 46 with
Gothic-style iron balustrade. Plain stucco band beneath
pediments; stucco parapet with stucco coping or blocking
course to 1st floor recessed link. Attached cast-iron railings
with urn finials.
