This mansion was known till recently as Rothley Temple. It was a preceptory of the Knights Templar, to whom the manor was given by Henry III. After their suppression it was given to the Knights Hospitallers of St John of Jerusalem. At the dissolution it became a private house and the seat of the Babington family.
