Farmhouse. C17 with later remodelling. Painted brick largely
replacing earlier timber frame; clay tile roof; brick ridge stack.
T-shape plan; 2-bay fully floored hall range to west and 2-bay parlour
wing to east; hall is contained in the west bay of the hall range and
the chimney stack in a narrow bay to the east; lobby entry originally,
with door (now blocked) on the north side. 2 storeys; gabled wing
to left; 1:2 windows, casements, those to wing and to ground floor
of hall range have segmental heads, those to first floor of hall
range have straight heads, the parlour wing windows are wide, hall
range window to first floor left is small. Single storey painted
stone extension to west with window to left hand and lower projecting
gable to centre. C20 brick extension with single casement attached to
west gable end. Interior: Massive inglenook fireplace to hall with
ovolo-moulded timber surround; ovolo and hollow chamfer moulded
ceiling beams; timber framed partition to first floor of crosswing;
king post roof truss to west gable of hall range with diagonal struts
extending from king-post to principal rafters; queen strut truss to
east end of hall. Despite its plain exterior this house has an
interesting plan and good interior.
