Opened 1832 California Junction 1869. Impressive pennant stone embankment
about 200 yds long. The California Incline Railway meets this at an angle
and is composed of a raised causeway about 20 ft high, buttressed on south
side and crossing Siston Brook with a plain arch. The parapet of the causeway
has a soldier course. Closed 1904. Important remains of this tramway from
Rodway Hill to the Avon include wharfs near Londonderry Farm and Avonside
(qv).
