Memorial fountain. Dated 1877; on behalf of the people of Stanhope, commemorating
'the late J.J. Roddam of New-Town'. Sandstone ashlar and pink granite. Gothic
style. Round-cornered step to fountain with granite basin, under gabled cusped
canopy resting on corbelled granite shafts with stone clasping bands and foliage
capitals; similar shafts recessed, supporting inner arch, and at corners.
3 diminishing upper stages with top blind arcade and steeply-sloped coping.
Much Gothic ornament. Panel on left return commemorating Roddam. One shaft
missing attime of survey.
