Ragnall Hall and attached outbuildings

A Grade II Listed Building in Ragnall, Nottinghamshire

The maltings adjacent to Ragnall Hall

Uploader's Comments

Here the complete range of maltings is visible: the growing floors are to the right with their characteristic low headroom & small square windows used to control the air supply to the geminating barley; the taller malt kiln to the left whose cowl is now missing. The whole assembly a fine example of the industrialisation of farming & food processing in the latter part of the C19.
Finally, we learn that this site may have been the birthplace of Sir Nicholas Hawksmoor often described as a pupil of Sir Christopher Wren - but a highly creative architect exemplified by his masterpiece at Christ Church, Spitalfields.
This fascinating collection of buildings has a value far beyond its locale.
