6/11 Brook House Farmhouse.

II

Farmhouse: C16 , early C17 addition, further additions and
alterations from late C17. Partly coursed squared buff sandstone
rubble, partly rendered brick. Kerridge stone-slate roof and 2
plastered stacks. L-shaped plan with east range containing the early
features. North gable of this has 6-light chamfered stone-mullion
with hood mould below, rebated 5-light above and simpler 2-light to
left. Remaining openings to an east front are all C20 some placed
where 2 lateral stacks were demolished.
Interior: original house timber framed with 1½ pairs of full crucks
on padstones surviving. Added stone parlour has weakly ovolo-moulded
jetty posts, ceiling beams and wooden lintels to rear of windows. A
3-light stone-mullion survives within the house (1 light with original
lattice leaded glazing). Roof truss over parlour has a tiebeam and 2
diagonal struts.
A clay floored priest hole with access from the loft only has now been
included in the bathroom. North range with Welsh slate roof not
included in the item.
