House: c1845 for J de Castro, extensively rebuilt 1906 by C F A
Voysey for A Heyworth. Cream brick, partly roughcasted, with brown
sandstone dressings. Welsh slate roof and 2 plastered chimneys.
2-storey, 4-bay north front, under 2 gables and roughcasted. To left
is tall 2-light mullioned and twin transomed window lighting staircase
and adjacent is the semi-circular headed opening to the porch with a
label mould above. Remaining fenestration of 3 typical Voysey
mullioned windows and a circular light. Garden front of cream brick
has 2 large lunettes below and mullioned windows above.
Interior: largely unaltered. Closely set plain balusters in
staircase with square mushroom finials to newels. 3 large tiled
fireplaces, one with Voysey's columns. Built in astragal glazed
bookcase in 1st floor corridor. Good door furnishings throughout.
A unique example of Voysey's work in Cheshire.
