Bank with flats over. Mid/late C19, said to have been a refronting
of a C18 women's prison. Ashlar in 2 colours with lighter colour
quoins and dressings, on stone plinth, tile roof with fish scale
layers, ashlar end stacks with short twin polygonal flues. Single
front range and rear extension, 2 storeys and attic. 2 steep
pointed gables to front with decorative barge boards, flanking
small central Dutch gable with ball finial and applied shield. 3
bays with 3-light stone mullion windows flanking 2 single lights in
centre. Ground floor has two 4-light stone mullion and transoms
flanking central straight-headed doorway set into large 4-centred
chamfered arch. Gables have single small latticed light.
Important for group value with Town Hall, Salter Street (q.v.).
