Town Hall. Early C19. Ashlar with rusticated ground floor, hipped
slate roof, cornice and tall moulded parapet wall, with extra
course to east. Nearly square, 2 storeys. Corner piers of ashlar
on ground floor, rising to coupled pilasters on 1st floor. Facade
to Salter Street has three 24-pane sashes in recessed reveals.
Ground floor has 3 large segmental head arches with elaborately
glazed windows to each side and recessed 6-panel door of bolection-
moulded panels in stained glass surround. Facade to Market Place
(east) has round-headed window in recess on 1st floor and large
segmental arch on ground floor with clock inset into elaborate
glazing bar design.
