House, now Study Centre. Dated 1901. Restored 1980-90. Built for J.T.W Lawton the manager at Masson Mills. Ashlar, rendered brick and timber framed, plain tile roof with overhanging eaves and ornate barge boards. 12 rendered chimney stacks with diagonal terracotta tops and terracotta tracery. Deep chamfered plinth, moulded first floor band, ashlar ground floor.
Two storey plus attics. Casement windows throughout. Main east front, has projecting central section with two canted bay windows flanking a single cross mullion window under a segmental arch. Above a three light window flanked by shallow canted bay window all with cross casements. Above two four-light windows with two smaller windows between to the left a projecting octagonal turret with two-light casement and a copper spire. To the left a two window section with cross mullion windows and above three-light cross casements, then a five-light dormer. Beyond a tall gabled canted ashlar bay window with five-light cross mullion windows on each floor. A single window beyond with a cross casement on each floor and above an enlarged dormer window. Set back to the right a three window wing with a central projecting ashlar bay, square at the ground floor with a two storey canted oriel above.
North front, has central doorway with stepped ashlar hood, and above a large three light cross mullion window in shallow pointed arch. To the right a two storey canted bay window. Above various irregular casement windows one in a timber framed gable.
South front has a off-centre entrance with two arches fine ashlar column between, to the right a four-light window and to the left a two and a three-light similar window. Above an inserted fire escape window, flanked by cross casements, and to the left a three-light cross casement. Above four irregular casements in two projecting gables. West entrance front, has projecting entrance with double panel doors, a projecting hood and above a tall four-light stair window with tracery. To the right a large segment headed six-light window with tracery. To the left an entrance archway set at right angles with a moulded pointed arch and decorative blind tracery above with blank shields.
INTERIOR. Dining room has dado panelling door surrounds and a good quality wooden fire surround. Entrance hall has panelling and ornate plaster coving, plus wooden staircase with "barley-sugar" turned balusters, and square panelled newels, with upper octagonal open landing with similar balusters. Upper landing now "floored in" has glazed "top-light" with stained glass. Main reception room has ornate plaster ceiling with Adam-style panels. Former billiard room has fine ashlar fire surround with columns and carved capitals.
