1792. Architect, William Thomas of London. Built for Sir Richard Arkwright
(who died before completion). Freestone; 3 storeys; 7 plain recessed sash
windows; stringcourses. The centre-piece is defined by projecting round
turrets over full height. Embattled throughout. A large and severe castellated
house in extensive grounds. The interior retains a fine oval hall with
galleries on upper storeys.
