House, now store. c1848, with mid and late C20 alterations.
Designed by Rooke Harrison of Sheffield. For John Rodgers,
head of Joseph Rodgers & Sons, cutlery manufacturers. Stucco
and ashlar, with hipped slate roof. Italianate style.
Moulded plinth, impost band, modillion first floor and eaves
cornices. 2 storeys plus basement; 4 window range of plain
sashes with panelled surrounds and dentilled cornices. Ground
floor has Ionic pilasters. Central Ionic portico, 3 bays, with
dentilled cornice and open balustrade, covering 8-panel door
with fanlight, flanked by single plain sashes. Beyond, on
either side, a Venetian window. All these openings have
moulded round heads and keystones. To left, a C20 door in the
basement. Outside, a pair of S-curved rendered flanking walls
with square piers and slab coping.
Right return has 4 sashes and a 2 storey single bay link with
extruded corner to adjoining 2 window service wing. To right,
a bow window with 3 round-headed lights. Similar rear
elevation has 5 plain sashes on each floor. 3 basement
windows, to left, converted to doors.
