Country house, now public library and adjoining boundary wall.
Late C18, with mid and late C20 additions and alterations.
Ashlar and brick, with hipped artificial slate roof with 3
coped ridge stacks.
EXTERIOR: plinth, first floor and sillbands, modillion eaves
cornice. 3 storeys; 5 x 3 windows.
South front has a central canted full height bay window with a
pedimented 12 pane sash with balustraded apron, flanked by
similar sashes with cornices. Beyond, on either side, two 12
pane sashes. Above, seven 6 pane sashes, the central one with
moulded surround and bracketed sill. On the ground floor, a
French window with moulded surround and cornice, flanked by
single plain sashes with cornices and beyond, on either side,
2 plain sashes, the left one boarded up. Western entrance
front has a round-headed recess containing a Venetian window,
flanked to left by a plain sash and to right by a margin light
sash. Above, three 8 pane sashes, the right one blank. On the
ground floor, a moulded doorcase with cornice, flanked by a 16
pane sash to left and a margin light sash to right.
To left, a mid C20 addition, rendered with slate roof. Single
storey, 5 windows, with pilasters between. To left again, a
single bay flat-roofed addition.
East side has a central 12 pane sash with moulded surround and
cornice, flanked by single smaller sashes. Above, three 6 pane
sashes. Ground floor has a C20 single storey full width
addition, brick and ashlar, with parapet and pilasters.
Central round-headed French window with fanlight. Rear has a
tall round-headed stair window.
INTERIOR has entrance hall with enriched modillion cornice and
wooden open well stair with landings. Cut string, vase and
stem balusters. Several fielded 6-panel doors with moulded
surrounds.
Outside, at the rear, adjoining curved boundary wall approx
70m long. Brick, with stone plinth to right, slab coping and 2
square gate piers.
