GV II

Public house. c1820, refronted c1920, altered and
refenestrated later C20. Stucco, with faience pubfronts and
gabled and hipped slate roofs. 2 rendered gable stacks. Eaves
cornice with breaks.
2 storeys; 4 x 3 windows. Acute angled corner site, with
rebated rounded corner. Ground floor has a faience pubfront in
an Egyptian style, returned on both fronts, with plinth and
ornamented cornice. Windows have wooden mullions and transoms,
and etched glass. At the corner, a single window, blank above.
Handel Street front has a central doorway flanked by
half-columns and sidelights, set in a recess defined by
quarter columns. On each side, a 3-light window.
Left return, to Robin Hood Street, has a central doorway
flanked by quarter columns, then by 3-light windows. Doors are
renewed and have overlights.
Upper floors on both fronts are divided by giant Egyptian
pilasters. Regular fenestration, with plastic framed glazing
bar casements. Second floor windows are smaller.
