Railway viaduct. 1845. By Joseph Locke for the Sheffield,
Ashton under Lyne and Manchester Railway Co. Rock-faced stone
with brick arches and ashlar dressings. 3 round main arches
with voussoirs, the piers supported by buttresses. On either
side, a smaller similar arch. Oval plates to wall ties. String
course, and coped parapet wall topped with a wrought-iron
railing.
Important survival of monumental early railway architecture.
