Manor house. C16 and later. Dressed and sandstone rubble;
plain tile roof with composition tiles to rear; 2 massive
brick external stacks, reduced to left, with 3 diagonally set
C20 brick chimneys to right. E-shaped on plan with advanced
wing to right.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys and attic; irregular fenestration, mainly
of C19 wooden 2-light mullioned windows with chamfered oak
cases; string bands; central gable with stepped 4-light
mullioned window with metal lattice glazing in chamfered
plastered brick surrounds. Studded plank doors to left and
centre right, in ashlar panels with string bands over. 2 and
3-light mullioned windows. Later advanced wing to right, of
stone rubble with plain tile roof; two 2-light mullioned
windows with lattice metal glazing, over similar mullioned
window. Studded plank door.
Rear: twin gable wings and smaller gable; various
lattice-glazed lights with plastered brick mullions, and
casements; plank door in chamfered case to centre left, with
brick and stone hood over; rubble stackbase with 3 diagonally
set C19 brick stacks to rear wing.
INTERIOR: south-east wing badly damaged by fire, 1976, but
retains some features, including 2 fireplaces with stone
lintels. C17 and C19 panelling; stone arch of former entrance;
chamfered ceiling beam; blocked fireplace; panelled doors;
wall-cupboard; C19 fireplaces; pierced splat balusters; winder
stairs.
