House. Mid/late C18. Limewashed limestone rubble with brick
party wall stack and a stone slate roof. Single-depth plan
with attached rear former stable.
2 storeys; 2-window range. Segmental-arched brick heads to a
right-hand doorway with C20 door, and ground-floor C19 6-pane
window; first-floor windows beneath the eaves, mid C20
casement over the door and a mid C20 2-light casement to the
right. The left-hand gable return curves following the line of
the road; rear S-facing former stable gable has cambered heads
to left-hand door and 6-light ground-floor window, and timber
lintel to first-floor casement.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
HISTORICAL NOTE: the town South Gate was at the S end of the
High Street, and may be associated with the curved corner.
