House, now hotel and restaurant. C16 with C18 refronting.
Timber-framed, part plastered and weatherboarded at rear, and
colourwashed brick. Hipped old tiled roofs, 2 rebuilt red
brick chimneys on ridge line.
EXTERIOR: 3-bay centre with 2 projecting 3-light wood
mullioned casement lights with old lead quarries, 1 in each
wing; centre three 2-light casements, centre lattice leaded,
deep plat band at first-floor level. Ground floor has two
3-light C20 wood casement windows with small panes, with
central semicircular arch above each, centre with 2 recessed
12-pane sashes, central half-glazed door in broad late C16
moulded surround with flat head; late C18 outer surround with
panelled pilasters and flat doorhood on cut brackets. Right
flank (north) elevation has coupled late C18 12-pane sashes
first and ground floors, the latter under broad segmental
brick arch, single sash to right, right end bay plastered
first floor with small 2-light wood casement and ground floor
weatherboarded with small paned 2-light wood casement and
half-glazed door, cellar drop lower left against end of brick
casing of remainder of elevation.
INTERIOR: ground floor opened out into a single bar and dining
area subdivided by the chimneys. North wing has central
lateral chamfered and tongue stopped beam, remnant of post and
door jamb alongside fireplace. Exposed beams in main bar area
mainly appear reset, with cased steel joist at south end where
wall removed to give access into late C20 extension. First
floor has ceilings at tie beam level and indication of
original gabled roof at front. Upper roof not accessible for
inspection.
