Public house, now bank. Probably 1890s, converted c1980. Brick
with stone dressings, lateral stacks.
STYLE: Free Renaissance.
PLAN: double-depth.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys; 3-window range. A symmetrical front has
depressed 3-centre ground-floor arches beneath a cornice,
stepped out over moulded panels with square urns, first- and
second-floor transom and sill bands, cornice and parapet, with
balustrades over the outer bays and raised central
round-arched gable containing an oculus. Right-hand double
doors, central Venetian glazing bars, all three with
small-paned upper lights, and separated by terms with
grotesque heads. First-floor has a canted oriel with a
pedimented cornice and balcony; upper windows with transoms
and mullions and C20 plate glass.
INTERIOR: altered, retains decorative ceramic tiles either
side of the outer bays to former pub lobbies.
HISTORY: formerly contained mahogany pub fittings, frosted
glass bar fronts and polychromatic mosaic flooring, with tiled
saloon and public bars. An extremely complete public house
front, in a favoured late C19 style.
