Lodge. 1898-1900. By C.F.A. Voysey. Coursed slate with some roughcast, and
slate roof. One storey with attic, 3 bays. Wide eaves and moulded
bargeboards. East facade has gabled 1st bay with raking buttresses. Windows
have casements with architraves, moulded sills, and leaded glazing with
rectangular quarries; 1st bay has paired 2-light casements with dressed slate
dripcourse and lintel above, other 2 bays have 4-light windows; 1st floor has
3-light window with dripcourse over, the gable roughcast above. Large
cross-axial stack. North-east angle is recessed to form porch, the angle on
Tuscan column. Entrance has boarded door with strap hinges and handle with
heart motifs; window adjacent. North gable end has roughcast gable over
dripcourse. Ground floor has 2-light window; gable has projecting timber dove
cote, the roof extended over; ledges but no holes. Porch has iron overthrow for
lamp, with heart motifs. Wall adjoining to right has round-headed entrance with
strap hinges with heart motifs. West facade has lean-to outhouse to 3rd bay,
with gable above. Entrance up 3 slate steps to 2nd bay has 2-light window to
right. 3rd bay has 3-light 1st floor window with dripcourse, the gable
roughcast above. South gable end has later lean-to timber shed and low large
projecting lateral stack. Interior has few original features, but windows
retain type of catch common to Voysey's work.
