Row of 4 estate worker's houses. Early C19, probably by Peter Atkinson based
on a plan by John Carr for Edward Lascelles, 1st Earl of Harewood. Hammer-dressed
stone, stone slate roof. Single cells, double-depth. 2 storeys and attics to
wings. 8-bay symmetrical facade. Outer 2 bays taller wings which break forward
slightly. Ashlar plinth, 1st-floor band, eaves band continued as impost-band on
wings. Outer bays have doorways with monolithic lintels to one side of window.
Above, semicircular-arched recesses have flat-arched windows with voussoirs and
segment-headed windows to attic set in archway. Central 4 bays have 2 doorways
flanking 2 windows with 4 windows above, all with monolithic lintels cut with
false voussoirs. Most windows have altered glazing. Central ridge stack. Wings
have hipped roofs with ridge stacks.
Complementary to Nos 2-5 (q.v.) opposite.
