Service wing at Papplewick Hall, now a house. Early C18.
Coursed and squared rubble with hipped slate roof. Stone
dressings, quoins, moulded eaves. 3 ridge stacks. 2 storeys, 5
unequal bays. Irregular L-plan. Windows are mainly C18 cross
mullioned casements. Openings have heavy stone jambs and
mullions. East front has to left, passage opening. To its
right, beyond C20 boundary wall, door and 3 casements. Above,
central casement. Above again, 2 leaded dormers with segmental
heads. Above again, louvred ridge ventilator. South side has
four centred arched opening containing C20 door. To its right,
door. To right again, blocked carriage opening containing door.
To right again, 2 casements. To their right, 2 doors. Above, to
right, C20 casement. Return angle to right has lean-to addition
with a door. Rear elevation has to left, C20 French window
flanked by single casements. To right, a French window. Above,
to right, 2 casements. Above again, to left, 2 Yorkshire sashes
and to their right, a casement. Above again, dormer with C20
casement. Outside, curved boundary wall with flat coping. To
right, a chamfered doorway.
