GV II
House, now inn. Mid-C17, restored and extended 1910 with later additions
and alterations. Timber framed with rendered infill; slate roof.
Original baffle-entry plan of 3 framed bays with eaves raised; considerably
extended early and late C20. Framing: much renewed, rectangular panels,
3 from cill to wall-plate to C17 part with planted framing to early
C20 additions. Early C20 leaded casements, 2 to left and one to right
of porch, central one slightly projecting with carved brackets; 3 gabled
eaves dormers with quatrefoil decoration and pointed finials probably
1910. Gabled porch with barleysugar balusters probably C17 but considerably
restored 1910; C20 ledged door. Red brick ridge stack immediately
to right and external end stack to left. Brass plate on outer lintel
of porch has inscription recording repair of inn in 1910, now largely
illegible. Interior: ground floor considerably altered late C20 with
central rebuilt stack but retains some exposed timber frame and chamfered
beams and joists. Prominent C20 additions to rear and right are not
of special architectural interest.
