War Memorial. c1922, when many such were raised. Granite and bronze.
Battered granite plinth. Statue stands on a circular base supported by
4 lions' heads as capitals to shafted pilasters of base. Surmounted by
good bronze sculpture of woman in Roman dress holding trident in one hand
and a statue of a winged man kneeling on one knee in the other. On her
bodice is the royal emblem of 3 rampant lions. Elaborate plumed helmet with
seahorses to either side. Prominently sited.
