Gate lodge and associated gate piers. Late C19. Sandstone ashlar, slate
roof. Lodge: rectangular plan, single storey and 3 bays, symmetrical, in
Italianate classical style. To drive, a shallow pedimented porch with
panelled corner pilasters and 2 Corinthian-style square pillars, recessed
4-panel double door with stilted segmental fanlight and impost bands; to each
side, a round-headed window with moulded sill band, pilaster jambs, moulded
head and keystone; panelled corner pilasters; prominent modillioned cornice,
modillioned pediment. Hipped roof with central chimney. Each return wall
has a canted bay window with pilaster jambs and stilted segmental-headed
light; (sashed without glazing bars), dentilled cornice. Double gateway,
with 3 principal gatepiers, all sandstone, square in section and approx.
3 metres high, with channelled rustication, round-headed panels to the front,
fluted frieze, and urn finials; ornamental cast-iron gates in left gateway.
Low concave curved outer walls linked to outer piers, which are of channelled
rustication; former railings missing.
