Originally built as 'Flowergate House' way back in 1779, it was modelled on the original plans of the Mansion House, in London, although the 2 storey extension in Flowergate was added later. It has had a long and varied history, in the 1800s it was opened as a hotel and remained this way until the 1950s when it was purchased by the Whitby Working Mens Club Association. In 2002 it was purchased by the present owners and after a 2 million pound refurbishment it was restored to its former splendour and reopened as the Resolution hotel.
