Artisans' cottages. 1909. Barry Parker and Raymond Unwin. Painted pebbledash; plinth of brick in Flemish bond to centre section only with brick surround to round-arched cross passage at centre; gable kneelers in tile. Roof of tile with swept eaves and exposed rafter ends. Two storeys. One of several blocks in Asmuns Hill designed on the pattern of a double ended hall house: hall of five window range and gable facing crosswings of one window each. All openings flat arched unless otherwise stated and all with weatherings except for first-floor windows in hall range. Elevation symmetrical, on centre line and outer corners a half dormer with hipped roof; diminutive eyebrow windows between. Entrances to Nos. 3 and 5 with doors of original design and small sidelights to either side of cross passage. Entrances to Nos. 1 and 7 on returns. A pair of three-light casements to ground floor of each cross wing, and a six-light casement above. All windows with casements of original design. Ridge stacks to crosswings and on centre axis; L-plan stack to ridge and rear slope on party walls between Nos. 1 and 3, and 5 and 7. The Asmuns Hill Group is a most important example of a complete Parker and Unwin townscape. The hall house plan form of a main range with crosswings will be referred to in subsequent discriptions.
