Pair of houses, now house and offices. c1860. Brick with some
ashlar dressings. Slate roof.
EXTERIOR: facade almost symmetrical, of 3 storeys plus attic
and cellars and 4 bays. The 1st and 2nd floor windows have
brick flat arches and are sashed with large square panes: 2
over 4. The 1st floor windows are taller and have a sill band.
At the left on the 1st floor there is a narrow additional
window which is sashed without glazing bars. No.80 has a
flat-roofed attic dormer. On the ground floor both houses have
a painted canted bay window with a modillion cornice. The one
to No.80 has sashes without glazing bars and a rendered base
with a low cellar opening. No.82 has a sashed window facing
forwards. To each side of the facade there is a doorcase with
panelled pilasters, a modillioned cornice, panelled reveals,
and centrally-divided overlight. The doors both have 4 panels.
A central doorway leading to a passageway has a stone
architrave with rusticated semicircular head. The door has 4
panels and the semicircular overlight has a central division.
The gutter is carried on shaped brackets. Chimney between
houses in front of ridge.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
Forms a group with the other Georgian houses on this important
street in York.
